416-8A Baffle Mounting

I was about to type "How do I front mount a 416-8A?" in the title of this post but changed my mind to avoid nasty responses

So, how do I mount a 416-8A on the front of the baffle if I have an existing cabs with no back access and has a driver hole on the front already cut to that of a 604 driver?

I think you will have to notch out where the ribs are on the back of the woofer.I don't have a 416A handy to look, I only use the 416B.I have those same cabinets 612C's with 416B's in them that do bolt right up.But the A's are 15" and the cutout in the opening of the 612C is beveled for the 604.You may have to drill new holes through that bevel which I don't think is a good idea.Doesn't leave you much space for the T-nuts.As you can see in the second to last and last picture the screw hole for the T-nuts is already on the edge of the bevel.You wouldn't have some 16" drivers would ya

Interesting! Never seen any beveled factory cabs.

Anyway, I did the baffle notch mod once and after that I just used thick NEMA 3R rated neoprene gasket material because it was readily available to me, though doubling up Altec or similar gaskets should work fine also. The main thing is to not over tighten! It takes very little pressure to hold even a heavy driver in place for a HIFI/HT app, so consider shims/spacers at the screw points if you don't have either a torque wrench or calibrated wrist. If for a prosound app, then I recommend mounting it to the rear of at least a 5/8" thick adapter plate to mount/gasket to the existing baffle.
